When I was in Iceland, I also went to the old rectory at Laufás (30 km from Akureyri). The oldest part was built in 1840. Nowadays, it´s a small museum – open between 9:00-17:00 from 1st of June to 31th of August.
The architecture was very interesting. And this one is considered to be the prototype of Icelandic architecture with many gables side by side. But mostly the fact that the houses were built with turf pieces took my attention. What an ecological thinking? But I guess the turf helped to isolate better.
