As I’ve already written a post about my trip to Malta, today’a post is about the nice San Anton Gardens in Attard on the island Malta. You can get there by bus (e.g. from Valletta).
This is the most beautiful garden in Malta with a large variety of flowers and plants. Since 1882 San Anton Gardens are open to the public.
You can also find the San Anton Palace in the garden, which is nowadays the residence of the Maltese President. It was originally built in the early 17th century as a summer residence for the Grand Master Antoine de Paule.
The garden is surrounded by walls and therefore you have a kind of private atmosphere there – and also some shady places.
The garden is laid out in a formal manner, with wide walkways, ponds with ducks and turtles, sculptures and fountains.
The San Anton Gardens contain a large variety of trees and flowers from around the world – some of them are over three centuries old. For many years it has been customary for heads of state to plant a tree when visiting Malta.
In 2005, Queen Elizabeth II stayed at the Palace during her visit in Malta. You can try to find her tree 😉 .
You can find different kinds of cypress, palm trees, araucarias, jacarandas, orchids and even winter roses.
You can have a seat on a bench for a while, observe what’s happening around you and be aware of the cute kittens. ^.^ They’ll come to you as soon as you chill there.
The garden is open daily from 7:00am till 6:00pm (June to September) and from 7:00am till 5:00pm (October to May). And yes, the entrance is free. 🙂
